WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A local motorcycle club is using Memorial Day weekend to raise awareness about a crisis impacting veterans across the country.

The Forgotten Irish Sons teamed up with non-profit, Stop Soldier Suicide and Copperhead Harley-Davidson for a community fundraiser focused on mental health, support, and suicide prevention. Motorcycles lined the parking lot at Copperhead Harley-Davidson today as veterans, families, and community members gathered for ” Operation home Safe”, a benefit event supporting Stop Soldier Suicide. The event featured live music, food vendors, raffles, games for kids, and guest speakers, all aimed at raising money and awareness for veterans struggling with mental health challenges. One veteran at the event spoke about losing friends to suicide and gave advice to anyone struggling with mental health.

“Don’t stop fighting. You got brothers and sisters everywhere you could lean on. CVMA, we’re real big on that. We take care of each other. The group probably saved my life. I didn’t have many friends when I came from Arizona to here and this is the first group I linked up with. Yeah, it changed my life forever”, said Deadwood.

Organizers say they hope events like this continue breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, while reminding veterans and civilians that support systems matter and help is available.
