LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — As many people celebrate Earth Day, experts say taking care of the planet doesn’t have to mean making major lifestyle changes.

In fact, small, everyday habits can make a meaningful difference: not just for the environment, but for your own health and wellbeing too.

Here are six simple eco-friendly habits that can also help improve your daily life:

    1. Spend more time outside: Walking, biking or simply getting some fresh air can do more than reduce emissions. Spending time outdoors has been shown to boost mood, lower stress levels and support overall mental health. It also adds more movement into your day, naturally.

    2. Use reusable water bottles and coffee cups: Switching to reusable options helps cut down on single-use plastic, and can also encourage you to stay more hydrated throughout the day, which is essential for energy and focus.

    3. Eat more plant-based meals: You don’t have to go fully vegan to make an impact. Incorporating more plant-based meals into your routine can support heart health and reduce your environmental footprint.

    4. Reduce energy use at home: Simple changes like turning off lights, unplugging unused electronics or opting for natural light during the day can lower energy use. These habits can also create a calmer, more mindful home environment.

    5. Cut back on overconsumption: Buying only what you need can reduce waste and save money. It can also help reduce clutter, which experts say may lower stress and improve focus.

    6. Minimize food waste: Planning meals, using leftovers and being more mindful about what you buy can help reduce food waste. These habits can also save money, reduce mealtime stress and encourage more intentional, healthier eating.
