“The most important thing is creativity and the ability to think. We want to ensure that our friends with disabilities have equal access to development and economic independence,” Sukro Muhab, Special Staff to the Minister of Manpower said.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) is continuing to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities through entrepreneurship training, with the aim of supporting economic independence and encouraging job creation.

This was conveyed by Sukro Muhab, Special Staff to the Minister of Manpower, when opening the 2026 Entrepreneurship Services Event themed “Inclusive Entrepreneurship, Growing Together” in Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) last Friday.

He said job opportunities must continue to expand to optimise existing national potential, noting that employment is not limited to the formal sector, such as civil servants or company employees. Instead, opportunities can also be created through independent businesses, the creative economy, and the use of digital technology.

Job vacancies, he added, exist not only within companies, but can also be created independently; therefore highlighting the need to encourage a shift from job seekers to job creators.

Through this initiative, the Ministry is focusing on two main areas:

    1. Entrepreneurship training for people with disabilities
    2. Business strengthening for start-up micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Sukro emphasised that physical limitations are not a barrier to creativity and participation in economic activities.

“The most important thing is creativity and the ability to think. We want to ensure that our friends with disabilities have equal access to development and economic independence,” he added.

In addition to training, the Ministry is also offering opportunities for further business development through the Independent Worker programme. This programme is aimed at participants who have already started businesses, enabling them to grow and expand their scale.

“We not only provide training, but also provide mentoring and access to financing. We hope that the businesses they start can grow and even absorb new workers,” he said.
