Las Vegas, Nev. (WorkersCompensation.com) – A kitchen employee at a golf facility has died after being shot by a security guard who later barricaded himself inside of an office for six hours.
The incident was one of many employees shot on the job in the past week
The kitchen employee was killed while he worked for Atomic Golf in Las Vegas, Nev. Police said Regla Martinez-Masso was working as a kitchen cleaner of the facility. After arriving for work between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., she was in the employee breakroom on the second floor around 8:13 a.m. when she heard a male voice yelling “open the door” in English, a coworker, Daisy Silva told police. Silva encouraged Martinez-Masso to open the door by the executive chef office. When she did, she was struck by gunfire that came through the wall, police said.
Silva said she heard one shot and saw a hole in Martinez-Masso’s zip-up hoodie with blood on her chest. The two women ran downstairs and escaped the building. Martinez-Masso had been shot in the upper left chest.
When police arrived on the scene, Martinez-Masso was transported to a nearby hospital, and investigators determined the shooter, security guard Andrew Mullen, had used office furniture to barricade himself inside the chef’s office. Police were able to access live video surveillance to identify Mullen. He was armed with a revolver, and barricaded himself in the office for an estimated six hours.
At 3:27 p.m., Mullen was arrested and charged with battery with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm within an occupied structure and resisting a public officer with a firearm.
Mullen told detectives he has been diagnosed with PTSD after serving in the Army for five years. He said he’d begun working with Magana Security in November 2025, and was assigned to Atomic Golf. served in the Army for five years in infantry.

Surveillance indicated he’d entered the chef’s office around 8 a.m. to get away from people. When he saw movement through holes in a darkened window, he shot at the movement. It was not until he was taken into custody that he was told he had shot a woman.
In St. Louis, Mo., a 20-year-old woman was arrested and charged with murder after shooting to death a Steak ‘n Shake employee earlier this month.
Jada Bell was charged with first-degree murder, first degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and three counts of “armed criminal action.”
Police said Bell was in the drive-thru of the fast-food restaurant on April 8 when she got into an argument about her order with the restaurant’s employees, including Chauncia Meekins. Bell through a cup at Meekins, who responded by throwing a drink at Bell. At that point, Bell escalated the conflict by shooting Meekins.
Meekins, 32, was struck multiple times. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Authorities said another restaurant employee was shot in the hand, but that his injuries were not life-threatening. Video surveillance captured the incident, officials said.
Meekins had been working at the restaurant for three months.
Bell was being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $1 million bond.
In Columbia, Md., police are asking for help locating a woman who shot a Shell gas station employee.
Police said the woman walked into the Shell station on April 17 around 7:43 p.m., and shot the employee while she was trying to rob the store. Surveillance video showed the woman walking up to a register then pulling out a gun and pointing it at the employee. Moments later, she can be seen firing a single shot.
The employee remains in serious condition at a shock trauma center, officials said.
In New York state, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the parking lot of a busy retail center in New Springville.
Police said the woman was shot as she was arriving for her scheduled work shift at Target. According to investigator, on Friday morning, the woman was arriving for work when she was struck by a single round in the back of her neck in the parking lot area. While police roped off what appeared to be a side employee entrance.
The employee was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries. She was reported to be in stable conditions by April 21. Officials said they believe the attack was a targeted attack.
Officials are searching for the suspect, a male wearing all-black clothing, on a motorized scooter or motorcycle that lacks a license plate.
Target corporate leadership closed the store in response to the shooting, and store leaders said the corporation was deeply saddened by the event.
