MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education and the Association for Children with Disabilities (ACD) have explored ways to support educational initiatives and rehabilitative services for children with disabilities. This took place during a visit by Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibani, Minister of Education, to the Association’s headquarters.

The minister reviewed the Association’s various programmes and activities, as well as its ongoing efforts in the fields of rehabilitation and training.

She emphasised the importance of integrating efforts between the Ministry and relevant associations to achieve the desired educational and humanitarian objectives, expressing her appreciation for the Association’s dedicated work.

Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibani during her visit to the Association for Children with Disabilities.

Khadija bint Nasser al Saati, Chairperson, ACD, affirmed that the Association strives to provide the best possible services for children and their families, and to continue developing its programmes despite challenges, with support from both public and private entities, thereby contributing to enhanced social inclusion.

The ACD operates eight centres distributed across several governorates of Oman, providing services to 361 children with disabilities through integrated educational and rehabilitative programmes aimed at developing their abilities and enhancing their opportunities for social integration.

The Association for Children with Disabilities is a non-profit, voluntary charitable organisation dedicated to providing educational and rehabilitative services to children with disabilities in Oman. Through its centres located across various governorates, it contributes to supporting social inclusion efforts and empowering this group to acquire life and educational skills.

The Association targets children with hearing, intellectual and motor disabilities, as well as autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome, within the age group of 4 to 14 years.

It also offers pre-vocational preparation programmes for the age group of 15 to 23 years, tailored to their abilities and aimed at enhancing their integration into society.

The Association implements a range of integrated services, including educational, rehabilitative, psychological and social services, alongside community awareness programmes, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and vocational preparation programmes, in addition to extracurricular activities designed to develop children’s skills, discover their abilities and nurture their creative potential. – ONA
