LA CROSSE (WKBT) — An organization used art and dance to bring awareness to suicide prevention today at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
The 16th Annual Dance for Hope promotes suicide prevention and educational resources. The event featured performances from local dance groups, raffles and information booths.
Karlene Buckmaster, a board member with the La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative, emphasized the importance of checking in with people.
“Check in with people you care about because not everyone is open to share their story and you never know with mental health it’s invisible,” Buckmaster said. “So check in on your families and friends and neighbors, and don’t be afraid to ask them questions. Just because you talk about suicide doesn’t mean you’re going to plant the seed. If they’re already thinking about it, they’re thinking about it.”
All proceeds from the event go to the La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative.
