Development Impact Partners (DIP), in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), is set to host Consumer Health Week 2026 (CHW 2026) in commemoration of World Health Day.

The event will be held from Monday, 6th April to Sunday, 12th April 2026 in Accra, and will be officially launched on Tuesday, 7th April 2026 at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, in commemoration of World Health Day.

Held under the theme, “Empowering Consumers, Strengthening Health Systems,” CHW 2026 aims to promote consumer health literacy, patient safety, responsible health practices, and public trust in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The week-long programme will bring together key stakeholders, including government institutions, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), development partners, civil society organisations, private sector actors, healthcare professionals, the media, and consumer groups.

    Programme Highlights

Activities will commence on 6th April with public engagement and health education initiatives.

From 7th to 8th April, a summit and health expo will be held, featuring policy dialogues, panel discussions, exhibitions, innovation showcases, capacity-building workshops, and on-site health screenings. The official opening ceremony and World Health Day commemoration will take place on 7th April.

Activities will continue from 9th to 12th April with sustained public engagement, consumer education, and community-based health screening and outreach programmes.

    Objectives

The initiative seeks to enhance consumer awareness of health rights and patient safety, promote the responsible use of health products and services, contribute to national health policy discussions, strengthen public-private collaboration, and provide a platform for innovation and knowledge-sharing within the health sector.

    Expected Outcomes

CHW 2026 is expected to improve consumer health literacy, strengthen public confidence in Ghana’s health and regulatory systems, deepen collaboration between public and private stakeholders, increase visibility for quality health innovations, and generate practical policy recommendations to inform future strategies.

By aligning with World Health Day, the initiative underscores global commitments to health equity, access, accountability, and resilient health systems, while placing consumers at the centre of healthcare delivery in Ghana.
