Can 15-20 minutes of daily clapping boost heart health, circulation, and mental well-being? Doctors explain the science, benefits, and limitations behind this simple habit.

The pressure generated during clapping may help enhance blood circulation. Improved circulation allows oxygen and nutrients to flow more efficiently throughout the body, potentially supporting cardiovascular function.
Regular clapping for 15-20 minutes daily may assist in maintaining healthy blood pressure levels, says Dr Pandey. Better circulation can reduce the strain on the heart and may lower the risk of certain heart-related conditions. By promoting smoother blood flow, clapping could also help prevent blockages in arteries.
Clapping not only offers physical advantages, but it may also positively impact mental well-being. The act of rhythmic clapping can stimulate the release of “feel-good” hormones like dopamine. This may help reduce stress, anxiety, and irritability, allowing individuals to maintain a more positive outlook throughout the day.
Doctors also suggest that stimulation of palm pressure points may activate the digestive system. As circulation improves, energy levels may increase, helping individuals feel more alert and refreshed. Even a short session of clapping when feeling fatigued may provide a quick boost of energy.
Dr Pandey recommends setting aside 15-20 minutes daily for clapping. No equipment, cost, or special training is required. It can be done at home, in a park, or even during short breaks. While clapping therapy is simple and accessible, consistency is key. Like any wellness routine, benefits are more likely when practised regularly and alongside a balanced lifestyle.
In today’s fast-paced world, where stress and heart-related concerns are common, this small daily habit may serve as a supportive tool for overall well-being—provided it complements, not replaces, professional medical advice.

In the pursuit of good health, many people turn to yoga, rigorous workouts, and strict diets. But what if a simple, cost-free activity like clapping your hands could offer multiple health benefits? According to Dr Riddhi Pandey, a physician from Chandauli, clapping is not merely a gesture of appreciation or joy; it may have measurable physiological effects when practised regularly.
