    Gold Coast woman celebrates 105th birthday with a game of Lawn Bowls

    Showing age is but a number, an Australian woman has celebrated her 105th birthday with a game of lawn bowls, surrounded by family and friends on the Gold Coast.

    Still fiercely active, Mona Wiggins still plays bowls twice a week, does her own shopping, and credits a lifetime of movement and simple living for her longevity.

    Sharing her advice for a long, happy life, Wiggins says the secret is to keep busy, stay social, and “just get up and do things.”

    Passerby pulls pregnant woman from sinking car hours before she gives birth

    A Florida man is being hailed a hero after diving into a freezing pond to rescue a heavily pregnant woman trapped in her sinking car, just hours before she gave birth.

    Shedly Apollon was on her way to a prenatal appointment when she began to feel faint, pulling to the side of the road before her car careened into the water. She was pulled to safety just moments before it sank.

    Doctors later delivered a healthy baby girl, with the family crediting the dramatic rescue for saving both mother and child.

    Portugal leads EU’s renewable electricity push

    More than 80 percent of Portugal’s electricity was generated from renewables last month – seeing the country surge to the top of the EU renewables leaderboard.

    The electricity was source mostly from hydropower(36.8 per cent), closely followed by wind (35.2 per cent) and solar represented 4.4 per cent.

    Across the month, there were 210 hours when enough renewable electricity was generated to power the entire country at once.

    Retriever event a Golden success

    More than 5,500 golden retrievers, and 16,000 people have gathered in Golden, Colorado for an annual celebration of the much-loved breed.

    The record-breaking ‘Goldens in Golden’ event was billed as a day of infectious positivity – and the pictures suggest it lived up to the promise!
