Mount Pearl Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (VOCM News)
The city of Mount Pearl has released its Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
More than 500 residents and business owners participated in the public engagement that informed the creation of the document.
The report was compiled in response to public concern surrounding a number of violent attacks in the city in 2024.
The plan focuses on six priority areas. They include Youth Safety, Engagement, and Development, Safe and Inclusive Public Spaces, Mental Health and Social Supports, Responsive Safety and Enforcement, Housing, Mobility and Urban Design, and Building Trust and Collaboration.
Under those umbrellas, the city will focus on a number of items including creating safe spaces, reducing bullying, improving lighting, and addressing housing affordability and reliable transit.
As part of the implementation process, the city will look at two or three “flagship actions” per priority area per year, provide yearly reports on progress, and establish a steering group that will provide guidance and monitor progress.
