February Is “211 Awareness Month.” Sign Up Now For Training Opportunity.

In honor of “211 Awareness Month,” an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training workshop is available to the public.

BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Local residents looking to make a difference in mental health awareness have a unique opportunity to gain life-saving skills next month. In honor of “211 Awareness Month,” 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast is hosting a two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop on February 11 and 12. The event, held at the CSC Palm Beach County office at 2300 High Ridge Road, aims to turn everyday citizens into vital support systems for those in crisis.

The ASIST program is a globally recognized, evidence-based workshop that teaches participants how to spot warning signs and provide immediate help to those at risk of suicide. While the topic is heavy, the training is designed for everyone—not just medical professionals. Organizers say the goal is to empower neighbors, teachers, and coworkers to step in confidently when they notice someone struggling. Ty Barnes, President and CEO of 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast, noted that suicide prevention is a “shared responsibility” and that this training provides the specific tools needed to take meaningful action.

Beyond the workshop, the month of February serves as a reminder of the 24/7 lifeline the 211 service provides to the community. As a free and confidential resource, the organization helps residents navigate everything from housing instability and food insecurity to urgent mental health needs. By hosting this training, the agency is expanding its reach from a phone-based service to an in-person network of trained interveners throughout the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast areas.

Registration for the full two-day session is $50, which covers all training materials. For those looking to stay on-site during the 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. sessions, an optional lunch package is available for an additional $30. Because the workshop relies on interactive group discussions and hands-on practice, attendees must be present for both full days to receive their completion certificate. Interested residents can sign up here to secure their spot in what often becomes a sold-out community event.
