    Who Gets Paid This Week

Millions of Americans are set to receive their next Social Security payment this week, with the next round of benefits scheduled to arrive Wednesday, March 11.

The payment is part of the monthly distribution schedule used by the Social Security Administration (SSA), which staggers checks throughout the month to manage the more than 70 million Americans who rely on Social Security benefits for retirement, disability, and survivor income.

If you’re wondering whether your payment will arrive this week, the key factor is your birth date and the type of benefits you receive.

Who will receive the Social Security payment on March 11?

Beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and the 10th of any month are scheduled to receive their March Social Security payment on Wednesday, March 11.

This group represents the first of three payment waves sent to retirees, disabled workers, and survivors under the SSA’s standard monthly schedule.

Payments are issued as direct deposits or paper checks depending on the recipient’s payment preference.

March 2026 Social Security Payment Schedule

For most recipients who started receiving benefits after May 1997, the SSA distributes payments on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of each month based on birth date.

Here is the full March 2026 payment schedule:

    • March 11: Birthdays between the 1st and 10th
    • March 18: Birthdays between the 11th and 20th
    • March 25: Birthdays between the 21st and 31st

This staggered system helps the agency process millions of monthly payments efficiently.

Who gets paid on different dates?

Not everyone follows the Wednesday payment schedule.

Some beneficiaries receive their payments earlier in the month depending on their circumstances.

You may receive your payment on March 3 instead if:

    • You began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997
    • You receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
    • Your Medicare premiums are paid by your state
    • You live outside the United States

These recipients typically receive Social Security on the 3rd of each month, regardless of their birth date.

Why SSI recipients didn’t get a payment in March

Some beneficiaries noticed there was no SSI payment issued in March. That’s due to a calendar shift rather than a benefit reduction.

SSI benefits are normally paid on the first day of the month, but if the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, payments are issued earlier.

Because March 1, 2026 fell on a Sunday, SSI recipients received their March benefit early on February 27.

That means recipients still receive the full amount of benefits—they simply received the payment earlier than usual.

How much Social Security beneficiaries receive in 2026

Social Security payments increased in 2026 due to a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) designed to help retirees keep up with inflation.

Some key benefit figures for 2026 include:

    • Maximum retirement benefit: up to about $5,181 per month for those who retire at age 70
    • Average retirement benefit: roughly $2,074 per month
    • Maximum SSI benefit:
      • $994 for individuals
      • $1,491 for couples

Actual payments vary depending on lifetime earnings, retirement age, and benefit type.

How to check your Social Security payment status

Beneficiaries who want to verify their payment date or benefit amount can check their account through the SSA’s online portal.

The “my Social Security” account allows users to:

    • Track upcoming payments
    • Update direct deposit information
    • Access tax forms and benefit statements
    • Estimate future retirement benefits

Creating an account can also help beneficiaries quickly resolve issues if a payment is delayed.

    What to expect next

The March 11 payment marks the first of three major Social Security payment dates this month. Millions more Americans will receive their benefits over the following two weeks as the SSA completes its regular distribution schedule.

For retirees and disabled workers who rely on these payments to cover essential expenses such as housing, groceries, and medical care, knowing the exact payment date can make budgeting far easier.

Stay informed and plan ahead. Social Security remains a lifeline for over 71 million Americans — knowing your payment dates and any upcoming changes is key to staying financially secure. If you’re unsure about your benefits or need personalized guidance, visit SSA.gov or call 1-800-772-1213.
