YUMA, Ariz. — The City of Yuma is taking a proactive step toward a more inclusive future with the launch of “Access for All,” a community-wide outreach campaign designed to educate the public on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between legal requirements and everyday experiences, highlighting the city’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure while fostering a culture of respect for residents and visitors alike.

“I’m excited to support the ADA Access for All campaign because creating a place where everyone feels welcome truly matters to me,” said Deputy Mayor Leslie McClendon, who serves as the ADA Commission Chairperson. “When barriers are removed, people are free to explore, connect, and fully experience our community.”

The campaign will utilize a mix of social media, video public service announcements, and digital resources to provide practical information on several key areas, including:

    • ADA Fundamentals: Breaking down the basics of the landmark federal civil rights law.
    • Accessible Parking: Reminding the public about the importance of keeping designated spots and access aisles clear.
    • Invisible Disabilities: Raising awareness for conditions that aren’t immediately apparent but still require accommodation.
    • Reporting Concerns: Streamlining the process for residents to notify the city of physical or digital barriers.

By highlighting both physical progress—such as improved city services and infrastructure—and the social aspects of inclusion, Yuma officials hope to create a shared sense of responsibility among local business owners and citizens.

“Welcoming everyone isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s who we are,” McClendon said.

Residents can find more information, explore ADA resources, or follow the campaign’s progress by visiting the city’s website at yumaaz.gov/ada or following the City of Yuma on social media.
