Kelly McDuff and her family had just moved into her new home when she was greeted by an unexpected gift: a homemade cake.

“We just moved into a house and my 98-year-old neighbor just dropped off a cake to welcome us to the neighborhood,” McDuff wrote in the caption of a TikTok video, which currently has 20.1 million views.

As she filmed herself with her hand over her mouth, speechless, the next caption read: “He’s lived here for 52 years and ‘hopes we love it as much as he has.’”

The next day, McDuff returned the favor by making a lemon pie.

“Bless you, sweetheart, I love lemon pie,” her neighbor said as she dropped off the baked goods.

“You didn’t have to do that, but I’m just delighted you did,” he continued, off-camera. “If my stepdaughter wasn’t asleep, I’d tell her to come here and meet you, she loves lemon pie.”

“I loved your cake and it was so sweet for you to bring it over,” McDuff replied.

McDuff added something special to the pie too: her family’s names and numbers so she could be just a phone call away. He immediately offered his number too, wanting to stay in touch.

When she got back home, McDuff said she had “no words.”

“I am simply on cloud nine and will be recovering the rest of the week,” McDuff said as she wrapped up her video.

Just days later, McDuff befriended another neighbor, a woman who was recently widowed.

“She gave us her contact information the other day, with her kid’s information [too], and her hobbies, which are golf and dance — so cute,” McDuff said, smiling.

In exchange, McDuff made a list of her family’s contact information — and hobbies — and dropped it off with a fresh bundle of yellow chrysanthemums.

“If you’re watching this and you think this is something sweet and something cool, go meet your neighbor,” McDuff told viewers.

“Go knock on their door and bake them some cookies.”
