Social Security February Payments: The Social Security office has already finished sending out all payments for January. These payments were sent on five different days. Now, before January ends, the agency is getting ready to start giving out payments for February.

The first people to get money for February 2026 will be those who receive Supplemental Security Income, also called SSI. They will be paid on Friday, January 30. Normally, SSI payments are sent on February 1. But in 2026, February 1 falls on a Sunday. Because of this, the payment is sent earlier on the closest working day. More than seven million people receive SSI, so they will see their money first.

Florida Social Security Payments January 2026: Exact Dates and Who Gets Paid When?

These payments are usually sent on one of three Wednesdays in the month. It can be the second Wednesday the 3rd Wednesday or the 4th Wednesday.

    • Born on 1st-10th of any month:Weds., Feb. 11
    • Born on 11th-20th of any month:Weds., Feb. 18
    • Born on 21st-31st of any month:Weds., Feb. 25

Who gets Social Security Payments before the Wednesday schedule?

Some people who have been getting Social Security benefits for a very long time follow a different payment rule. The usual three-Wednesdays payment system does not apply to people who started receiving retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits before May 1997. In February 2026, all of these long-time beneficiaries will get their payment on Tuesday, February 3. Their birthday does not matter for this group.

February 3 is also an important date for people who receive more than one type of benefit. Anyone who gets retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits along with Supplemental Security Income will be paid on the same day. SSI is meant to help people with low income who are over 65 or who have a disability. Around 7.34 million people receive SSI and about 2.5 million of them also receive another Social Security benefit at the same time.

Social Security and SSI: Payment date for February 2026 benefits:

    • Tues., Feb. 3: Pre-May ’97/dual recipients
    • Weds., Feb. 11: If born on 1st-10th
    • Weds., Feb. 18: If born on 11th-20th
    • Weds., Feb. 25: If born on 21st-31st

More SSA Payments Coming in February

After the usual three Wednesday payments end on February 25, the Social Security Administration will send out another round. This payment is for SSI. Since March 1 falls on a Sunday, SSI money for March will be paid early. People will receive it on Friday, February 27, which is the last working day of the month. Anyone who wants to see all payment dates can check the SSA’s full payment calendar for 2026 online.

How Much Money do People get Each Month?

The Social Security Administration has shared the latest average payment amounts. As of December, retired workers were getting about $2,071.30 every month. Disabled workers received around $1,633.19 per month. People getting survivor benefits were paid an average of $1,620.95 each month. SSI recipients received about $714.53 monthly on average.

Starting in January, all these payments became a little higher. This is because of the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment. Last year, the SSA announced a 2.8% increase for retirement, SSDI, survivor benefits, and SSI. For retired workers, who make up almost 75% of all Social Security beneficiaries this means an average monthly increase of about $56.

Will a Government Shutdown Stop Payments?

There is concern about a possible US government shutdown due to a funding fight in Congress related to the Department of Homeland Security. If the Senate does not approve a funding bill by January 30, parts of the government could shut down. This would be the second shutdown since President Donald Trump returned to office one year ago. The last shutdown lasted 43 days, from October 1 to November 12.

Even if a shutdown happens, Social Security and SSI payments will not stop. The SSA has clearly said that benefits will continue. In its contingency plan, the agency promised to “continue activities critical to […] ensure accurate and timely payment“.
