Summer is a chance to slow down, step away from your usual routine, and make room for experiences you’ll remember long after the season is over.

Whether you’re planning a big adventure, spending more time outdoors, enjoying relaxing days at home, or looking for fun things to do with family and friends, a summer bucket list can help you turn those ideas into plans.

The best part is that your list doesn’t have to be filled with expensive trips or elaborate activities. Some of the most enjoyable summer memories can come from simple experiences, spontaneous adventures, creative projects, and quality time with the people you care about.

Still, coming up with enough ideas can be tricky. When there are so many possibilities, it’s easy to fall back on the same activities you do every year.

That’s why we’ve put together 121 summer bucket list ideas to help you make the most of the season. From outdoor adventures and travel-inspired experiences to relaxing activities and simple ways to have fun, there’s plenty here to spark your imagination.

In this article, you’ll discover 121 fun and inspiring summer bucket list ideas to help you try something new, create lasting memories, and make your summer feel a little more exciting.

And don’t forget to download the free Bucket List Template at the end of the article. It gives you an easy way to organize your favorite ideas, keep track of the experiences you want to try, and turn your summer plans into an actual list you can follow.

Let’s dive in and find some exciting ways to make this summer one to remember.

    What is a Bucket List?

A bucket list is a collection of goals and experiences you want to achieve within a timeframe. For summer, it serves as a guide to make the most of the season through intentionality and adventure. From big plans like road trips to simple joys like stargazing, a bucket list helps you focus on what excites you, break routines, and create meaningful memories. It’s a chance to savor the moment, foster growth, and turn your summer into an unforgettable experience.

Using a summer bucket list allows you to break out of routine and prioritize what matters most to you. It helps bring focus and structure to your time, ensuring you savor the present while creating cherished memories. By actively crossing items off your list, you cultivate a sense of accomplishment and joy, making the summer not just a season of warmth, but one of fulfillment and growth. Whether you’re tackling your list solo, with friends, or with family, it’s a powerful tool to stay inspired and transform your summer into an extraordinary and memorable experience.

    Summer Bucket List Ideas

When summer arrives, it can be fun to get involved in summer bucket list activities. You can do plenty of these alone or invite a friend along. After all, friends can make every experience better! This list is full of interesting ways to spend your summer, which can be especially helpful if you’re bored at home and need something to do… or would like ideas about what to try next.

    1. Build a Sandcastle

    2. Attend an Outdoor Concert

Check if your community offers a free summer outdoor concert series.

    3. Learn to Juggle

Juggling can be unexpectedly easy to learn, likely easier than you imagine.

    4. Read a Summer-Inspired Book

    5. Fly a Kite

    6. Rent a Kayak or Canoe

    7. Create Chalk Art

Being a child isn’t necessary for getting creative. In fact, all you have to do is head to the store to buy inexpensive sidewalk chalk to make your sidewalk bright and colorful.

    8. Ride a Bike

    9. Pick or Plant Wildflowers

    10. Eat Vegan Ice Cream

Whether you’re a vegan or not, you might end up loving the taste of vegan ice cream. It is certainly worth a try on a hot summer day.

    11. Try Volunteering

Volunteering can enhance social skills, increase sense of purpose, and boost self-esteem, among other things. You can volunteer online or in your area by joining a community garden, mentoring a child, helping out at a nearby animal shelter, or doing something else you enjoy.

    12. Plant a Butterfly Garden

By planting flowers that attract butterflies, you can start creating a splendid butterfly garden at home. This can be beneficial to the environment and insects everywhere.

    13. Put on a Puppet Show

You can put on a puppet show for your own kids or just enjoy the process of making unique puppets. And, with the arts & crafts skills you’ve gained, maybe someone will pay you to put on a puppet show in the future. No matter what, being yourself and doing what you enjoy is important.

    14. Start a Hobby

Some hobbies you might like are woodworking, painting, cooking, cycling, acting, parachuting, and filmmaking.

    Summer Hobby Ideas:

    15. Meditate in the Morning

One way I calm my body, mind, and spirit is by doing meditation in the morning, before bedtime, or whenever I feel the need. I recommend meditation because it can also help you prepare for the rest of your day.

    16. Have a Tea Party

No matter your age, you can likely take pleasure in a delicious cup of tea and maybe a savory scone or two.

    17. Make a Birdhouse

Birds can benefit from having a house, and a birdhouse can look beautiful in a backyard.

    18. Do Yoga Outdoors

While doing yoga indoors can be highly beneficial to a person’s health and well-being, doing yoga in nature can be even healthier. You can take part in a yoga class to stay motivated.

    19. Start a Beehive

This may seem like an ambitious idea, but starting a beehive is becoming more popular these days. Plus, bees are excellent pollinators almost anyone can love.

    20. Play Video Games

While it can be unhealthy to use technology excessively, playing the right video games can be both healthy and enjoyable. For one, some video games, such as Just Dance and Wii Fit, allow a person to move around and get exercise.

    21. Paint or Sketch Outside

Create a fabulous landscape with paint or sketch what you see in an art journal.

    22. Hike a New Trail

Wondering if hiking or walking is better for your needs? Check out this post comparing hiking and walking for fun and exercise.

    23. Take a Road Trip

    24. Open a Lemonade Stand

This can be a great activity to do with children or as an amusing way to earn them a bit of extra cash and teach them the value of responsibility.

    25. Draw or Color

You can find plenty of adult coloring books to get creative with. In my free time, I love drawing, and I create my own personal coloring pages to color.

    26. Head to a Museum

Free museums exist for children and adults.

    27. Make a Pizza

Pizzas can be surprisingly easy to make. Try finding a recipe that resonates with you and get busy.

    28. Explore a Different City

The city you choose could be in your state or somewhere else for a day trip adventure or a longer one for a more formal trip.

    29. Learn a New Language

Babel and Duolingo are two of the best methods for self-paced language learning. Find out more about these two language learning apps here.

    30. Go Swimming

    31. Play Frisbee with a Dog

Dogs love to run around and get oodles of sunshine and exercise. Consider taking your pet to a local dog park to socialize and play.

    32. Go Bowling

    33. Make Healthy Smoothies

    34. Go Whitewater Rafting

    35. Do Random Acts of Kindness

Since being kind is its own reward, you don’t have to worry about what you’ll gain from it. Random acts of kindness to try are feeding a stray dog, baking cookies for the elderly, giving someone an unexpected compliment, or leaving a nice note in a book at a library.

    36. Create a Summer Playlist

When I need something to distract myself, I turn on my favorite tunes. The songs you put on your playlist can relate to summertime or just make you happy in some way.

    37. Ride a Roller Coaster

    38. Bake a Homemade Fruit Pie

You don’t have to be a baker to bake a mouthwatering fruit pie. Just follow the directions and, with a little patience and practice, you’ll get there. I know this from personal experience, as I’m not a baker myself.

    39. Watch a Baseball Game

    40. Do a Jigsaw Puzzle

    41. Try Surfing

    42. Build a Treehouse

    44. Go Camping

    45. Try Scuba Diving or Snorkeling

    46. Run a Marathon

Once you are ready for a Marathon, you may want to investigate one of these 33 Top-Rated Marathons in the U.S.

    47. Develop a Good Habit

This idea is more meaningful than anything. But this doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. For one, waking up early can be an excellent habit, as it can lengthen each day and increase your summer fun.

    48. Go Skating

Ice skating, roller skating, and rollerblading can provide you with hours of entertainment.

    49. Have a Water Fight

You can use a small or large water gun and have a water fight with children or adults.

    50. Visit a Farmer’s Market

I think one of the best ways to spend a day is to head to the farmer’s market and pick up fresh fruits and vegetables to eat later on. Farmers can grow the tastiest peaches, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other foods around.

    51. Go on a Scavenger Hunt

Adults and children alike can participate in scavenger hunts at home or in the city.

    52. Donate to a Charity

Giving to others can help you gain a sense of purpose and meaning. You can donate a couple of dollars or more to a charity you admire. This could be a charity that supports the environment, feeds hungry children, or gives animals a chance to be adopted.

Recently, I adopted the sweetest little black rabbit, and I had to drive over 200 miles to get the animal. It was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

    53. Visit the Library

Checking out free books can be an exceptional way to gain knowledge or get lost in a fictional world.

    54. Go Offline for a Weekend

I know staying away from technology can be a challenge, but it can be completely worth it. Rather than waste your days surfing the internet, you’d probably like to do an activity that matters.

    55. Stay at a Fancy Hotel

    56. Have a Seasonal Outdoor Job

Whether you need or want to earn additional income, having a summer job can be a fantastic way to spend the season. You might like being a fruit picker, high rope course instructor, or lifeguard. Alternatively, join a sailing or stage crew.

    58. Make Tie-Dye T-Shirts

    60. Visit a Zoo or Animal Sanctuary

No matter how old I get, I still love seeing animals at the zoo. I could literally stay all day and never leave. I haven’t been to an animal sanctuary but would like to visit one soon.

    61. Jump Rope or Hula Hoop

    62. Learn to Play a Musical Instrument
