DIMAPUR: District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Naga Hospital Authority Kohima observed Suicide Prevention Week 2026 from September 11 to 16, 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to promote mental health awareness, encourage help seeking, and strengthen community based suicide prevention initiatives.
During the week long observance, the DMHP team conducted awareness and sensitisation programmes in various educational institutions and coaching centres, reaching out to students and young people at Government High School, New Market, Kohima; Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Mavericks Academy, Kohima; and NPSC Mentors Kohima.
The programmes were held under the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” with discussions aimed at addressing myths and misconceptions, reducing stigma surrounding suicide and mental health, and promoting a culture of understanding, support, hope, and timely help seeking.
As part of wider public awareness efforts, the DMHP team also utilised the platforms of Akashvani Kohima and Doordarshan Nagaland to sensitise the general population on suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and the services available across Nagaland.
The DMHP Kohima expressed gratitude to the authorities, administrators, teaching staff, and organisations that facilitated the programmes and provided opportunities to engage with students, young people, and the wider community.
The observance concluded with a call for collective efforts towards suicide prevention, emphasising the importance of creating supportive environments where individuals experiencing difficult times can seek help, be heard, and receive appropriate support. DMHP Kohima encouraged everyone to join hands in building a culture of hope, understanding, and support, and to be a beacon of hope for those navigating difficult times.
