KOHIMA, Sept 3: The Global Shapers Community Kohima Hub has announced a 5-km run on September 10 to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, urging the community to come together and create a more supportive environment for people in distress.

The event, ‘Run for Hope 2026’, will be held to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. More than 90 participants have registered for the run so far, organisers said at a press conference held at FiFa in Kohima on Wednesday.

The briefing was addressed by Rovikhono Savino, psychologist, Global Shaper and project lead for Run for Hope 2026; Dr Kivi Swu, impact officer, Global Shapers Kohima Hub; and Imlikokla Jamir, marketing agent, Global Shapers.

The organisers said the campaign aims to encourage people to speak openly about mental health, seek help when needed and build communities where individuals feel heard, supported and valued.

“The event is not just about running, but about creating a culture where people feel comfortable asking for help,” the organisers said.

Funds raised through the event will be used to support selected organisations, following a verification process, they said.

The run will feature amateur and professional categories for both male and female participants. Registration has been fixed at Rs 100.

The organisers also underlined the role of young people and community stakeholders in creating supportive spaces and strengthening community-based approaches to suicide prevention.

With “Every Step Gives Hope” as its campaign message, the organisers have invited people across Kohima to participate, walk or run and stand together for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
