Events throughout the North State are being held to recognize September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
In Tehama County, the board of Supervisors opened their Aug. 25 meeting by accepting a proclamation from the health services agency recognizing September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
The proclamation reads in part, “The month provides an opportunity to increase public awareness, promote hope, reduce stigma, and encourage individuals to seek help when they are experiencing emotional distress, mental health challenges, or thoughts of suicide.”
As part of the efforts for suicide prevention awareness, there will be “Hope and Healing” walks held in Red Bluff and Corning.
The walk in Red Bluff will take place on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., starting at the Cone and Kimball Plaza.
In Corning, the event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Corning Union High School track field. The purpose is to raise awareness and support for suicide prevention. Sponsored by Tehama County Health Services and Corning Union High School District. Coffee and donuts will be available for the first 100 people, plus crafts and poster-making. Resources and information will also be available.
