Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a benefit administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for people with limited income and resources who are 65 or older, blind or have a qualifying disability, is generally paid on the first of each month. When the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, however, the SSA issues payments on the preceding business day.

The SSA doesn’t send all its benefit payments on the same day. Instead, payments are spread across the month.

In September, payments will begin with SSI on Sept. 1, while the final scheduled Social Security payment will be issued on Sept. 23.

The Social Security Administration’s yearly distribution schedule for 2026 is available online so you can plan your budget.

Here’s when Social Security recipients can expect their payments:

The administration recommends allowing three additional mailing days if your payment doesn’t arrive on the expected date before contacting the agency. Most payments arrive on time, as 99% of beneficiaries receive their benefits electronically.

Here’s the full 2026 SSI schedule for the remainder of 2026:

Supplemental Security Income provides monthly benefits to those with limited income or resources who are 65 or older, blind or have a qualifying disability. Children with a qualifying disability can also get SSI, according to the SSA’s website.

People who may be eligible for SSI can begin the application process online, in person at their local Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.
