SSDI Payment August 2026: Who is eligible to get their disability benefits the last week of the month?

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries have one final opportunity to receive their regular August payment during the last week of the month, with the Social Security Administration (SSA) scheduled to send another batch of benefits on Wednesday, August 26.

The payment date is particularly important for beneficiaries whose birthdays fall toward the end of the month.

Social Security: When is COLA announced, how is it determined and how much can people expect?M.C.

Under the SSA’s standard payment system, eligible Social Security recipients who began receiving benefits after April 30, 1997, are assigned a Wednesday payment date based on their date of birth.

That means the August 26 payment is intended for SSDI recipients whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of the month.

The date is the fourth Wednesday of August and represents the final regular Social Security payment date on the calendar for the month. Beneficiaries whose birthdays fall earlier in the month should already have received their August payments.

Those born from the 1st through the 10th were scheduled for August 12, while those born from the 11th through the 20th were scheduled for August 19.

The same birth-date system generally applies to retirement, survivor and disability benefits, although there are important exceptions.

Who qualifies for the August 26 SSDI payment?

For most people who started receiving Social Security after April 30, 1997, the payment schedule works as follows:

    – Birthday from the 1st-10th: Second Wednesday of the month

    – Birthday from the 11th-20th: Third Wednesday of the month

    – Birthday from the 21st-31st: Fourth Wednesday of the month

Therefore, an SSDI beneficiary with a birthday on August 24, for example, would generally fall into the fourth-Wednesday group and should expect the August payment on August 26.

However, the beneficiary’s own birthday is not always the date used. If someone receives benefits based on another person’s earnings record, the SSA says the payment schedule is determined by the birthday of the person whose record establishes entitlement.

There are also beneficiaries who do not follow the Wednesday schedule. People who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 generally receive their Social Security payment on the third day of the month.

The same third-of-the-month rule can apply to certain people who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

August has another calendar quirk this year. SSI is normally paid on the first day of the month, but August 1, 2026, fell on a Saturday.

As a result, the August SSI payment was moved forward to Friday, July 31. That means there is no separate SSI payment dated for August in the final week of this month.

What should you do if your SSDI payment is late?

The SSA advises beneficiaries to check their expected payment date before assuming there is a problem. The agency’s official schedule confirms that payments are distributed according to benefit type and, for most post-April-1997 beneficiaries, birth date.

If the payment does not arrive as expected, beneficiaries should first check with their financial institution. The SSA also provides the my Social Security online account, which allows recipients to view information about their benefits and payment schedule.

The SSA’s 2026 payment calendar notes that if a payment does not arrive on the expected date, beneficiaries should allow additional time before contacting the agency.

For SSDI recipients born between the 21st and 31st, then, Wednesday, August 26 is the key date to watch. It is the final scheduled Wednesday payment of August, although individual circumstances can change which payment cycle applies.

The next Social Security payment cycle will begin in September, so understanding which schedule applies can help beneficiaries plan bills, housing costs and other monthly expenses without mistaking the staggered payment system for a missed benefit.
