Millions of Americans are watching the calendar this week as Social Security prepares to send its final regular June 2026 payment, with one specific group of beneficiaries due to receive money on Wednesday, June 24.
The payment applies to retirement, disability and survivor beneficiaries whose birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any month, as long as they began receiving benefits after May 1, 1997.

That group is paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month under the Social Security Administration’s staggered benefit schedule. That means June 24 is not a universal payment date. It is the last of three Wednesday payment rounds used for many Social Security beneficiaries.
Earlier in the month, people with birthdays from the 1st to the 10th were paid on June 10, while those born from the 11th to the 20th received their money on June 17. Beneficiaries who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 were paid on June 3.
Supplemental Security Income recipients followed a different schedule. SSI is generally paid on the first day of each month, unless that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday. In June 2026, that payment date was Monday, June 1.
Who gets paid on June 24?
The simplest way to know whether the June 24 check applies is to look at three details: benefit type, birthday and when benefits started.
Retirement, disability and survivor beneficiaries born from the 21st through the 31st are in the June 24 group if they filed after May 1, 1997. People who receive both SSI and Social Security, or who received Social Security before May 1997, generally follow the earlier monthly schedule instead.
The SSA calendar also advises beneficiaries not to panic immediately if a payment does not arrive on the expected date. It tells recipients to allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.
Electronic payments can also be delayed by banks or financial institutions. The SSA says recipients who do not receive an electronic payment on time should check with their bank first, because it “may be experiencing a delay in posting your payment.”
How much could the payment be?
There’s no single June 24 check amount. Social Security payments vary by earnings record, age at claiming, benefit type and other individual factors.
The 2026 cost of living adjustment increased Social Security and SSI benefits by 2.8 percent. After that increase, the estimated average monthly benefit for all retired workers is $2,071, according to SSA figures.
The average disabled worker benefit is $1,630, while an aged couple where both receive benefits averages $3,208. The maximum monthly benefit for a worker retiring at full retirement age in 2026 is $4,152.
SSI federal payment standards are $994 for an eligible individual and $1,491 for an eligible couple, though actual amounts can differ because of income, living arrangements and state supplements.
Anyone who still needs to report a late, missing or stolen payment can call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 or contact a local Social Security office. The agency says: “We will review the case and if the payment is due, we will replace it.”
