Kochi: A new collective for patients living with invisible neurological disabilities was officially launched in Kerala on the occasion of World Multiple Sclerosis Day, with stakeholders calling for greater awareness, policy support and easier access to government benefits.

The state-wide launch of MS Harmony was held at IMA House in Kaloor, Kochi, bringing together patients, caregivers, medical professionals and public representatives. The initiative focuses on conditions that are not immediately visible, including Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), MOGAD and Myasthenia Gravis (MG).

Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden inaugurated the event and unveiled the organisation’s logo. Addressing the gathering, he stressed the need for wider public and policymaker awareness about invisible disabilities and called for increased funding under the Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) to support uninterrupted access to medicines and treatment for affected patients.

During the event, healthcare experts highlighted challenges faced by people with neurological conditions in accessing welfare benefits. Dr. Joseph Sunny, Secretary of the All India Occupational Therapists’ Association, urged authorities to simplify and fully digitise the disability certification process.

He said online procedures similar to those adopted during the COVID-19 period could help patients obtain disability certificates and access eligible benefits more efficiently.

Several neurologists, healthcare professionals attended the programme.
