The final round of social security payments for May will be sent to Michigan beneficiaries this week.

Social Security payments for retired, disabled workers or survivors are always scheduled on Wednesdays, with May 27 being the final payment for May, according to the Social Security Administration calendar. The schedule is based on the birth dates of the recipients.

For June, payments are set to follow a normal schedule with June 10, 17 and 24 being the payment dates. Supplemental Security Income payments are also sent out at the start of each month, with Monday, June 1, as the next payday.

On May 12, the bipartisan advocacy group, The Senior Citizens League, announced a new Cost-of-Living (COLA) forecast for 2027 Social Security payments. Experts predict a 3.9% increase, which would be 1.1 percentage points higher than the increase in 2026.

The official COLA will be announced in October, based on third-quarter inflation data.

More on the 2027 COLA: Social Security COLA forecast now 3.9%. How much more you could get

Here’s more on when to expect your Social Security money in May 2026.

Will I get my Social Security check on May 27?

Yes, beneficiaries with birth dates between the 21st and the 31st of May will get their checks on Wednesday, May 27.

What should I do if I don’t get my Social Security payment?

According to the SSA, if you don’t receive your payment on the scheduled date, wait three days additional days, then call their office.

Where are Social Security offices in Michigan?

There are 48 offices in Michigan, and to find an office near you, recipients may use the office locator via the Social Security’s website by entering your zip code for office hours, numbers, available services and more.

What is the 2027 Social Security COLA forecast?

The 2027 COLA forecast stands at 3.9% as inflation rises, according to The Senior Citizens League’s May 12 update. If that goes into effect, the average Social Security check for retired workers would increase by $81.17.

In April, the TSCL had forecast the COLA to be 2.8%.

The TSCL releases a COLA prediction each month based on the Consumer Price Index, Federal Reserve interest rate and the National Unemployment rate from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

What were the big Social Security changes in 2026?

At the beginning of 2026 recipients received a 2.8% COLA for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, according to the SSA’s COLA Fact Sheet and American Association of Retired Persons, increasing payments about $56 per month.
