Round Table Malta 3 and 41 Club Melita will host an awareness and action event in aid of Victim Support Malta on 5th May at the Hilton Malta.
The event will focus on mental wellbeing and suicide prevention in Malta, with particular reference to men.
Victim Support Malta provides practical and emotional support to victims and survivors of crime and traumatic events. It also works to raise awareness and build safer, more supportive communities. Proceeds and donations from the event will support its SPOT services for victims and survivors.
Titled “Pay it Forward: Lend Your Voice So Others Can Find Theirs”, the session will include lived-experience testimonies, expert input, and a facilitated discussion led by Victim Support Malta Director Joanne Vella. It will address local challenges, stigma, and pathways to support, while also offering practical guidance on recognising signs of distress and responding effectively.
It will also include a brief presentation on Malta’s suicide-prevention landscape, followed by an open, facilitated discussion led by Joanne Vella aimed at identifying local barriers and potential solutions. Additional focus will be placed on recognising crisis signs and providing supportive first responses.
The event will feature personal testimonies from individuals with lived experience, including Shaun Desira, Matthew Mercieca (Muxu) and Wtr Able Seaman first class Daniel Thornton of the Royal Navy.
The initiative aims to reduce stigma, increase awareness of help-seeking pathways, and encourage community action to prevent suicide in Malta. Attendees are expected to leave better informed on recognising key stress signals and on practical ways to support others.
The event will run from 7pm to 9pm and costs €20 per person, including refreshments. Registration is available online via Google Forms.
