In the U.S., certain Social Security recipients are to get their latest benefits today – Wednesday, Mar. 25 – as the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends out this month’s final batch of payments.

Who’s getting Social Security benefits today, Mar. 25?

Social Security is to be sent out to recipients born between 21st and 31st of any month. (Important: If you claim benefits based on someone else’s employment record, the SSA uses the other person’s date of birth.)

Today payment run is part of the SSA’s three-Wednesdays distribution cycle. Of the nearly 71 million Americans who claim Social Security – be it retirement, disability or survivor benefits – most are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month.

In March, this birthday-dependent payment cycle is:

    • Born on 1st-10th of any month: Wed., Mar. 11
    • Born on 11th-20th of any month: Wed., Mar. 18
    • Born on 21st-31st of any month: Wed., Mar. 25
    • Retired workers: $2,076.41/month
    • Disabled workers: $1,633.76/month
    • Survivors: $1,623.28/month

Who isn’t paid on a Wednesday?

    • Some long-term recipients: Tuesday, Mar. 3

Beneficiaries who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 are paid on the third of each month, irrespective of their date of birth.

    • Double recipients: Tuesday, Mar. 3

Social Security can be combined with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a separate benefit for certain low-income individuals. People who claim both are paid Social Security on the third of the month, no matter their birthday, with SSI typically going out on the first.

How does Social Security pay out benefits?

Beneficiaries can provide the SSA with their bank details using the agency’s My Social Security tool.

Money can be loaded onto the Direct Express Card, a debit card for federal payments. Sign up at 1-877-874-6347 or GoDirect.gov.
