On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Zydus Healthcare Ltd organized a series of Mega FibroScan Camps dedicated exclusively to women, bringing attention to a health concern that often receives limited public discussion: liver health.

Held across selected Zydus Healthcare centres in Metro Cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bangalore for hundreds of Female patients, the initiative aimed to encourage women to take a more proactive approach to preventive healthcare. Through screenings, awareness sessions and medical consultations, the programme sought to highlight the growing risks associated with lifestyle-related liver conditions.

While conversations around women’s health often focus on reproductive care and nutrition, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is emerging as a growing concern among women. Medical experts noted that metabolic comorbidities such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), which is increasingly reported in India, are closely linked with liver health risks and highlighted the need for timely liver screening. Doctors also point out that sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary habits and broader metabolic disorders are contributing to the rising burden of liver-related conditions among women.

By dedicating the initiative to screening and education, Zydus Healthcare attempted to place the spotlight firmly on early detection and awareness.

A central feature of the programme was the use of Vibration Control Transient Elastography (VCTE) technology by FibroScan technology. FibroScan is a non-invasive diagnostic tool used to assess liver stiffness and detect fatty liver disease, conditions that can develop silently in the early stages.

Unlike traditional procedures that may require more complex testing, FibroScan provides a quick and reliable assessment, making it suitable for large-scale screening programmes. Medical experts often stress that early detection is essential, as many liver conditions remain asymptomatic until they reach advanced stages.

The camps aimed to address that challenge directly by offering easy access to screening, organisers sought to identify potential risks before they progress into more serious health concerns.

As part of the initiative, five Mega FibroScan Camps were conducted. Each camp screened approximately 70 female patients, resulting in hundreds of women benefiting from early health checks during the programme.

For many participants, it was the first time they had undergone a liver health screening. Doctors involved in the camps emphasised that preventive testing plays a critical role in identifying risk factors like fatty liver disease and other metabolic conditions.

The screenings also allowed healthcare professionals to provide personalised guidance to women who may require further medical attention or lifestyle changes.

Beyond the medical aspect, the camps were designed to create a supportive environment that encouraged women to prioritise their overall well-being.

Healthcare providers noted that many women often place family responsibilities ahead of their own health. By creating dedicated camps exclusively for female participants, the initiative aimed to make screening more accessible and comfortable.

Participants were also invited to attend awareness sessions where doctors discussed the importance of diet, physical activity and regular medical check-ups in maintaining liver health.

These sessions emphasised that liver health is closely linked with everyday lifestyle habits, including nutrition, physical activity levels and metabolic health indicators such as obesity and diabetes.

The camps witnessed the participation of several healthcare professionals who supported the initiative by conducting screenings and interacting with participants.

Medical experts used the platform to discuss preventive healthcare practices and explained how early diagnosis can significantly improve long-term outcomes. In addition to conducting tests, doctors also answered questions from participants, helping address common misconceptions related to liver disease.

Such interactions played an important role in reinforcing the message that preventive health screenings are not only beneficial but essential.

The initiative extended beyond diagnostics. For Zydus Healthcare Ltd, the programme reflects a broader commitment to preventive healthcare and community awareness.

The company has been working to address the growing burden of fatty liver disease through multiple patient-focused initiatives led by Zydus Healthcare Limited. These include large-scale screening programmes that assess thousands of patients daily, community walkathons to raise awareness, and the establishment of specialised diabetes-liver clinics aimed at early diagnosis and treatment.

Alongside screening efforts, the initiative also focuses on educating patients about what healthcare experts often describe as a “silent pandemic”, referring to the rising incidence of fatty liver disease linked to lifestyle and metabolic conditions.

Women attending the camps received guidance on maintaining balanced nutrition, managing weight and incorporating regular physical activity into daily routines. Medical professionals also highlighted the importance of periodic health check-ups, particularly for individuals with metabolic risk factors.

The programme aimed to ensure that participants left with both information and practical guidance to support long-term liver health.

The impact of the initiative was evident in the participation levels at the camps, with hundreds of women benefiting from screenings and awareness activities.

For many participants, the programme served as a reminder that preventive care begins with awareness and timely action. By combining medical expertise with accessible screening technology, the initiative attempted to bridge the gap between awareness and action.

As healthcare professionals often point out, early screening and lifestyle modifications can significantly reduce the long-term risks associated with liver disease.

Through the Women’s Day initiative, Zydus Healthcare sought to encourage exactly that: a shift towards proactive health choices and greater attention to an often overlooked aspect of women’s health.
