(NewsNation) — Social Security recipients can expect a regular payment schedule in April.
Every year, Social Security benefits are eligible for a cost-of-living adjustment to keep up with inflation. In October, the Social Security Administration announced a 2.8% adjustment for 2026, increasing the average monthly payout for retirees by $56, from $2,015 to $2,071.
The SSA staggers retirement payments by birth date, meaning everyone will get paid on a different Wednesday.

Wednesday, April 8: Birth dates between the 1st and the 10th
Wednesday, April 15: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th
Wednesday, April 22: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st
For Supplemental Security Income recipients, this month’s payment falls on Wednesday, April 1.
People who have been receiving Social Security before May 1997, or for those receiving both Social Security and SSI, a payment is scheduled for Friday, April 3.

The SSA recommends that beneficiaries who don’t receive a payment on their due date first contact their bank or financial institution to see if there was a delay. If not, the SSA recommends calling 1-800-772-1213 or contacting a local Social Security office.
