Young man is offered the opportunity to join Emergency Medical Services after his heroic act of bravery.
19-year-old Juan Mendoza jumped into action to save an elderly couple from a car wreck in the middle of a highway in southern Texas.
He was driving with his girlfriend when he saw a car spin out of control and stop in the middle of the road after a collision. Without hesitation, Juan pulled over and ran into traffic, and moved debris to pull Juan O’Matta and his wife Adriana from their smoking car.
Recently, Juan was reunited with the couple he rescued, who expressed overwhelming gratitude for his bravery.
Recognizing his heroic character, Justin Back, who is president of Acadian Ambulance Service, offered Juan a scholarship to EMT school, as well as a conditional job offer upon his completion. An opportunity like this will empower him to help even more people!
“He was there at the right moment that we needed him, so that’s why I say he was my angel,” said Adriana.
Man takes shelter dogs on a day out to help get them adopted.
Bryan Reisberg offers a customized service to adoptable dogs from The Best Friends Sanctuary.
He carries the dogs around New York City in a comfy backpack, giving these adorable pups a chance to enjoy a day out on the town. He plans fun adventures for the dogs, which helps them come out of their shells.
By letting people see the pups in their element, they receive plenty of positive attention and have a much better chance of finding a home. In fact, 13 of the featured dogs have already been adopted into loving, safe, forever families!
Teacher rallies community to create a weekend of belonging for students with special needs.
Special education teacher Wes Massey of Commerce City School in Georgia recently organized an unforgettable overnight trip for his students.
Students in special education programs don’t always have access to the same extracurricular experiences as their peers, such as joining the basketball team or cheerleading squad.
That’s why Wes planned a weekend getaway to Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange. From transportation and meals to activities and lodging, everything was covered through the help of volunteers and community donations.
This weekend of inclusion proved to be a milestone not only for the students but for their parents as well, who were able to see their children celebrated and fully included.
“I know life’s been hard, I know there’s been challenges. But we are going to do everything we can as a school system to make sure you’re included, you’re important, and that you matter to us,” said Wes.
Community performs over 70 acts of kindness to help an unhoused man during a winter storm.
Carlos Canales immediately stepped in to help Chris Brannon and his dog, Mowgli, after seeing them endure harsh conditions during a storm in St. George, South Carolina.
He gave Chris all the cash he had on hand and bought him hot food. Carlos shared Chris’s story on social media, asking the community to rally behind him. They all raised enough money to help him stay at a local motel for the week.
Community members stepped up with additional cash donations and warm meals, ensuring Chris and Mowgli were supported throughout the winter storm. The outpouring of support made sure they had everything they needed. The motel manager even offered more nights of shelter for free!
“Some of the people that help really don’t have much at all, and they’re giving,” said St. George councilmember Ruthie Tripp.
