Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has donated items to the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra as part of activities marking her 60th birthday.

The donation, she said, was to draw attention to the need for stronger support for persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups.

Nana Oye stressed the importance of education, describing it as the most effective tool for empowerment and transformation.

“Supporting education, especially for children with special needs, is a moral duty and a patriotic responsibility,” she stated.

On government interventions, the Deputy Chief of Staff said steps are being taken to improve access to education for persons with disabilities.

She mentioned the introduction of a student loan policy for persons with disabilities in tertiary institutions and amendments to the GETFund Act to provide additional resources for special schools.

“Government is going to do a lot for persons with disabilities,” she said, adding that commitments made under government policy would be implemented to support young persons living with disabilities.

The donation included food items such as bags of rice and cooking oil, as well as an undisclosed cash amount.

Dzorwulu Special School is one of several public special schools under the Ghana Education Service providing education for children with special needs.
