It is a well-known fact that those who have a disability are among the poorest people in the country and the main reason for this is because they don’t get given the same opportunities as those who are not disabled. Companies are fearful of hiring disabled people and this isn’t right at all, given the fact that they deserve the same opportunities as the rest of us. Of course, it is important to understand that there are some companies out there who do hire those who are disabled and they give them plenty of opportunities in the workplace as well, but this isn’t done effectively on a national level.
We are trying to do everything we can to raise awareness on disabilities as well as making sure that people are not being discriminated against because they are disabled. Of course, a lot of employers don’t discriminate against disabled people knowingly, but the statistics are there and they prove that those who have disabilities are not given the chance to progress as much and they are also not given the same opportunities either. This really does need to stop and it isn’t fair to say that they are not able to do the same job or even achieve the same results.
By raising awareness on disabilities, we can only hope that more employers make the choice to hire those who are disabled as well as making sure that they are comfortable in the role that they are in. If every company was to make the effort then maybe we would see a change in the way that those who have a disability are treated, as well as making sure that the statistics that are against disabled people are overturned and shown in a more positive light.
